Strengths at Work

When staff know and work from their strengths every day, productivity goes up, job satisfaction goes up, and turnover goes down. This we know from the Gallup Organization' remarkable worldwide research, as reported in now, Discover Your Strengths. This doesn't even begin to name the benefits to individuals, teams and organizations in terms of performance, creativity, innovation and commitment.

Strengths at Work is designed to help you realize all of these benefits and more.  While Chris is pleased to work in whatever way is most beneficial to you, he has developed a process to help structure this work for maximum benefit and efficiency. Chris is happy to work with you onsite (most practical in the eastern US), or via phone conference calls and email. The outline below represent the milestone steps in the process.

  1. Chris will introduce the core concepts to your group and help the identify key objectives.
  2. Chris will provide each team member with a copy of StrengthsFinder 2.0 by Tom Rath or Now Discover Your Strengths, by Donald O. Clifton and Marcus Buckingham. each book contains a code that allows the team member to go online to take the StrengthsFinder 2.0 assessment. Results are forwarded to Chris and the team member.
  3. During this same period, each team member receives copy of Go Put Your Strengths to Work by Marcus Buckingham, and completes reflective exercises regarding how much time they spend engaged in activities that tap strengths and weaknesses.
  4. Chris facilitates a discussion of findings and helps team members refine their individual strengths profiles.
  5. Either on its own or with Chris' assistance, the group completes organizational vision work (or presents already established vision) in behavioral terms (What does it look like?) and identifies the functions needed to realize that vision. Chris facilitates the organization and refinement of this information in preparation for the next step.
  6. With Chris' assistance, the team assesses and re-organizes tasks, job descriptions, work environment, workflow and other elements of daily functioning to maximize strengths and use strengths to overwhelm or manage weaknesses.
  7. Group implements, problem-solves, refines, repeat.

Why do organizations do this?

The remarkable research completed by the Gallup Organization found that organizations where employees used their strengths every day had higher productivity, higher customer satisfaction ratings and lower turnover. Further, organizations that learned to structure themselves so that employees used their strengths every day experienced the same results.

Bottom line? We get stuck in the ways we do things, even when they drain our energy and take much longer than they should. This process is designed to look at how things are done from a new perspective, a strengths perspective, and take full advantage of the increase in learning, performance, energy, initiative (and fun!) that comes when people are using their strengths - on purpose!
