Did you set goals for the new year? I did. This my most exciting one: To present my 2-day Strengths Development course 10 times, in 10 different parts of the country/world, while donating at least $20,000 in cash or services to the host organizations. It has been incredibly exciting to do the math and realize that this is doable and that even small programs could host this tranformative training for next to nothing. My goal is to make this training accessible and affordable to as many folks as posible in 2007. Drop me a line or call me if you would like to partner to make this a reality. I absolutely don’t mind those “I’m just calling to find out more” calls. That’s what this journey is all about.
One of the most frequent comments (OK, complaint!) I hear is how alone folks feel in advocating for a strengths-based perspective in schools and social service setting. I am asked what they should do, how to overcome this isolation. While I understand this feeling (and felt it often as a direct line worker, administrator and advocate), the fact is, we are not alone!
I made this discovery when I moved out of my isolated existence as a social services “geek,” and realized that there were incredible thinkers and researchers in business, psychology, medicine, athletics, even quantum physics, who were way ahead of us social service folks in their application of resiliency and strengths-based concepts.
